Paper Cranes!

Students Rebuild is an organization that taps into the creative force of young people in America in order to find solutions to worldwide problems.  After the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan, Students Rebuild began a "Paper Cranes for Japan" project in order to raise funds to aid in the disaster relief.  For every crane the organization receives, $2 will be donated.  This week, The Outlook is donating old issues of the paper to OutLoud for crane-making!  We'll show you how to make 'em and then we'll send them off to the Students Rebuild organization.  Bring your friends this week so we can crank out a big number!  Learn more about the Students Rebuild Paper Crane project here and "like" them here!  As usual, if you're not interested in participating, it's totally cool.  Come hang out anyway, you can root on the orgamiers!  Everybody is always welcome!

OFF TARGET.

Cabs' Editor's Note Regarding The Target Boycott:

It is Christmastime folks, the time that we all flock to the stores (any store, every store!) in order to fill stockings and cross names off our gift lists.  This may seem like the most difficult time of year to continue a boycott on Target, the super store of cheap and plenty.  However, this is the most important time to continue it. This is when our boycott can make the most difference.  This is when they expect us all to forget the significant anti-gay candidate support and overlook their refusal to apologize for it.  This is when they know our desire to shop has the possibility to trump our values and sadly, our self-respect.  But on the flipside, this is the time when they are counting on our cash the most.  This is when they need the numbers in order to get out of the black for the year. And this is when a collective boycott by the GLBTQIA community can make the biggest impact.  Don't give them your money so that they can continue to give it to people who actively work for anti-equality legislation.  There are plenty of online shops that can provide you with whatever you need.  Consider doing one better than that.  Consider heading out into your own cities and towns and buying your gifts from locally-owned businesses.  Those are the businesses and people who support you.  This season, choose to give your money back to them; choose to make that present for your loved one a present to your community as well. I plead with you, no matter how hard it might be to drive past the giant bullseye, don't forget that they put a bullseye on your back.  Put your money where your mouth is and buy local.

Chris & Don:  A Love Story   (2007)

Theirs was a true-life love story. The relationship between author Christopher Isherwood (whose work The Berlin Stories inspired "Cabaret") and artist Don Bachardy is chronicled in this documentary. Through home movies, interviews and readings from Isherwood's journal, the film reveals the pair's openness about their affair, the struggles with their age difference and their final months together as Don dedicated his art to the dying Chris.

This Week...    It's A Murder Mystery!

We still have about 7 spots available if you want to participate as a character.  Email outloudcbus@gmail.com and we'll get you signed up.

Trailer Trash Tragedy
This annual party banquet takes place at Gonagen Trailer Trash Park, where the residents have gathered to guzzle beer and box wine, and chomp down vittles while they celebrate nothing in particular "just a good ole time for all of us to get together," says Big Hoss Beaver, the host. However, this year the event was dampened by the unforeseen murder of one of the residents! Who, at this totally unfashionable party, created this trailer trash tragedy? All guests will have fun playing out their individual characters and investigating this unpredictable event. Whodunit and why, are the mysteries the rest of the trailer folks are determined to solve before the murderer strikes again!

This Week...

Movie Passes & Murder Madness!

This week is THE week to get yourself to OutLoud! Show up on Saturday, the 19th, and get a free movie ticket to the Gateway Theater, courtesy of our friends at Contiuum! Adam Long, lead pastor of Continuum Church will be giving out the tickets and will open a discussion about what spirituality means within our community. No preaching, no boring sermons, he's actually more interested in asking questions than giving answers. So, please come early, get a movie pass, and listen and/or contribute to the conversation! And then, go see a movie sometime at the Gateway... for free! Woo Hoo! Thanks Adam!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On February 26th, OutLoud will host a Murder Mystery Game during the drop-in hours!  Partocipation is entirely voluntary, so be sure to sign up.  We need at least 8 to play, but there is no limit to how many can be a part of the fun.  Please show up this Saturday, the 19th, to sign up, get or create a character, and help work out the details!  The game's theme will be "Trailer Trash Murder Mystery."  During a typical Trailer Park party, a resident turns up dead!  Our cast of fabulously-trashy trailer park characters (you!) must fumble their way through clues and undoubtedly-priceless scenes in order to solve the mystery of who killed the dead guy!  This will be the Saturday to prepare for next week's Murder Mystery!
If you wish to participate, we highly encourage you to show up this Saturday, however, if you are absolutely unable to make it, you can still participate.  Just email us at outloudcbus@gmail.com and we'll get you set up!  Everyone is, as always, welcome to join us, even if you do not wish to participate.
